LVSA Membership Meeting

February 6, 2013

Meeting called to order at 7:30PM by President Roger Sebesta. Six board members were present (Sebesta, Cain, Piette, Thomas, Williams, Moore), fifteen members were present.

January 2, 2013 minutes were read. Move by Thomas, 2nd by Sallows to accept as read. Passed by a voice vote.

Financials as of Jan 31: $17,857 in checking, $1,189 in savings. Membership: 274. Move by Nolan, 2nd Sallows to approve. Passed by a voice vote.

Shooting Committee – Dan Thomas

1] The NRA has special $300 life membership deal for limited time

2] It was revealed in a senate hearing that one of President Obama’s executive orders would allow private access the NIC system. If and when it becomes effective all could use this when selling privately.

3] Indoor smallbore matches are done for the season. The Tuesday night adult open shooting is proving to be popular with long gun and hand gun shooters alike. All are welcome.

4] The Personal Protection class still needs volunteers on the firing line. See Thomas to sign up.

5] The shots into the ceiling at the Indoor Range discussed. Individuals identified with security cameras. Thomas will contact them to advise to be more careful.

6] Placement of targets on the hangers discussed and the 4th rule “Know your target and what is behind it” was reviewed.

Range Committee

1] Outdoor range busy; some users leaving trash and unwilling to remove snow from steps and shooting apron.

2] The pistol range is now being plowed by member Jerry Olson. Many thanks to him.

Old Business

1] Will Robinson notified of the BOD decision on not allowing range usage for private gain. Shepard Humphries will also be notified.

2] The LEA invoices have all been mailed.

3] The LVSA website is being updated.

4] The Game and Fish fee increase was killed in committee but former G&F Killpatrick is leading a group to reintroduce a funding proposal.

New Business

1] Lander Rifle Club lease discussed. 1998 agreement specifies $2,500/year; that they own equipment but LVSA responsible for repairs. Motion by Piette that a lease payment of $7,500 less the cost of the last 2 pistols paid for by the LVSA [$495.00 and $410.78] be made for the 2013 lease. 2nd by Nolan. Discussion suggested payment should be held until the BOD of the LRC has input. Question called and passed by a voice vote.

2] Winter Fair participation: Discussion held questioning value: education, LVSA club PR, memberships sold, raffle tickets sold, enjoyed by youth, generally the most active booth, Marilyn Young questioned about the ‘air gun range on school property and said no problem since this has been done in past years. Jeff Hammer will contact the FCSD1 Superintendent for his official input prior to LVSA sending money for the booth. In the meantime, Caroline Cain will continue to line up volunteers.

3] Annual financial report reviewed; approximately $3,400 income over expenses. Largest expenses: lease, insurance, yard gravel. Largest income: dues, matches.

4] CMP dues paid for year.

5] Gary Capron, new member is NRA instructor in basic pistol, inside and outside the home, basic rifle and range officer. He questioned the range use policy with course presentation. As per Old Business #1—club decision ‘not for private profit’. Sebesta asked those in attendance which courses they would like and had no response.

6] Thomas asked what happened to the letter to the editor in response to Palmer’s letter was not done. IT was decided that the response should be as individuals rather than as Club

The Show and Tell will feature non-AR style battle rifles (e.g. Garand, M-14, M-1 Carbine, Springfield 03, Mauser, Lee-Enfield, Mosin-Nagant, FAL, HK91, Dragunov, etc.)

Adjourned 9:05pm with black rifles (ARs and one AK) presented in the Show & Tell. Most impressive.
