Mid-Range Challenge – 06.21.20

Emailed June 21, 2020

Dear Mid-Rangers, LVSA Members, and Friends:

The Summer Solstice edition of the club’s Mid-Range Challenge (600 yards) is in the books and definitely one for the books.

Conditions were great, 65 degF temps, overcast skies, and very little wind. Scores reflected this with 15 of the 26 scores logged in the two matches registering 100.

My records go back to the 2011 season. To date 1,191 scores have been recorded by Bruce Campbell and yours truly. Of these 286 (24.0%) have been 100’s, but only 36 (3.0%) have had a 7 or higher X count. Only 14 (1.2%) have had a 8 or higher X count, and only 2 have had a 9 or 10 X count: Tom Spriggs with 9 on July 2, 2017, and Bob Trebelcock with 10 today, the first 100-10X logged in this series. Bob did it with a Savage 12 chambered in 6BR with a Leupold 40x fixed power scope. A copy of the target (from the back) including the shot log is attached.

One new shooter, Jake Halsmer, joined us today, and one shooter, Dan Thomas, returned after a long absence. Hopefully both will include the future matches on their schedules.

Thanks as always to all helpers and shooters. The reason these matches run smoothly is because of all the help offered by the participants.

The next match will be held Sunday July 5 and will include both 600 and 1,000 yard targets. Update your ballistics and plan to be there.
