.22LR 100yd BR Winter Fun Shoot Results 11.22.14

Nov 22, 2014

Dear Smallbore Friends, Foes, and Indifferents:

The first match of the 2014-2015 season’s .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoot is in the books. Fifteen matches were scored, four with iron sights and 11 with scopes.

The weather was mostly overcast with periods of sun. The wind however was something else. Serious gusts alternated with periods of dead calm. The direction was anything but consistent. It was almost enough to make one question whether or not the Wind is really your friend.

A note on targets: the iron sight matches were shot on the NRA A-25 100yd smallbore target. The scope matches were shot on the A-23/5 R 50yd smallbore targets with the light colored 9, 10, and X rings. These were selected with the thought that the center of the bull would be easier to spot with the crosshairs. This was true, but it proved almost impossible to see the bullet holes in those rings. As the poet wrote, “The best laid plans …” We will be returning to the regular A-23/5 targets for the remaining matches.

My thanks to all who helped set up, score, set targets, sweep up, tear down, etc. Thanks also to all who participated. A good (but windy) time was had by all.

Watch your email for news about the Dec 20 match.
