SB/HP Rifle Silhouette Report – May 15, 2016

LVSA RIFLE SILHOUETTE REPORT MAY 15, 2016

A grey, 42 degree, heavy overcast greeted 5 silhouette shooters to compete in the final approved match of the season. The standard high power rifles were on tap to start the event. Ronald Kamp, Daniel, won the match with a 25. Lindle Offenbacker, American Falls, ID, toppled 12 for the AAA win. Hot on moving up a class, Tony Cross, Lander, put 22 into the dirt to take the AA money.

Next match featured high power hunting rifles. Congratulations to Ron Kamp for setting a State record with his 12 in a row turkeys and also the match win at 25. That is the 1st time the turkeys have been victims of ’10-in- a-row’ with the HP-H rifle. Kamp uses a Rem 700 chambered as a 6.5 Bobcat. Cross had 21 for the AA win. Offenbacker’s 8 was 1st AAA.

The smallbore portion of the event started with hunting rifles. Tony Cross shot a personal best with a CZ @ 30 for the match win. That gives him a leg into AAA. Kamp handled the master class @ 21. Offenbacker’s 16 was best in AAA while Anthony Fuller, Wheatland, won AA with 21.

With the threat of showers looming the standard SB rifles fired the last 40 shots of the day. Kamp elected to use his heavy barrel 54 Anschutz in the Fajan stock after it rested for 12 years in the vault. He quickly shifted from the 2# trigger on the hunter to the light trigger and whacked 30 for the win. Sebesta’s 25 was the AAA top score. Fuller won AA with 20 and Cross’s 21 was the best in A. The light rain backed off and allowed the targets to be returned to storage. A great day at the range clanging metal critters with the temp not reaching 50.

Next up will be the State Championships the weekend of June 11 and 12. Very few places remain in the 24 smallbore and 20 high power maximum. All 4 rifle divisions will be contested; Saturday is standard rifle day and Sunday will be the hunting guns. Entries from CO, ND, SD, MT, & MO will be joining the WY shooters.
