Dear Fans of Fall and .22LR BR Shooting:
At noon, it was raining slightly at my place. There were threatening clouds over the mountain to the southwest, and AccuWeather was still forecasting a 75% chance of rain throughout the afternoon.
Regardless, I headed to the range hoping to have the 19th .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot but fearing we would not. I brought my Kindle Voyage so I could read (Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises) while waiting to cancel the match.
I did not unload my gear. Rodger was the first shooter to arrive. Dennis was next. Neither unloaded their gear. Donn arrived, and being optimistic, unloaded his gear but did not set it up. Kent arrived (gear left in his truck) then Larry (ditto).
At 2:40 in a slight rain, the executive decision was made to shoot, but call it a practice match – we would record scores, but waived the $3.00 entry fee.
As the afternoon progressed, more and more competitors showed up and by the end of the day, we had logged 23 matches, two in irons and 21 in scopes.
No fees were collected from those brave enough to endure the adverse conditions (you could see your breath as we picked up). Let’s call it a Shooter Appreciation Match.
Regardless of the cold and rain, wind conditions were great varying little in direction or intensity. Scores were good, and a good time was had by all.
