LVSA RIFLE SILHOUETTE REPORT
MAY 21, 2017
The weatherman said partly cloudy with possible showers in the afternoon. The showers arrived early and the shooters elected to shoot from under the overhang of the roof even though it gave another 15 feet to the smallbore targets. The thermometer said it was 42 with the dampness chilling the fingers.
First on the line were the standard smallbore rifles to shoot 10 each of the 40 meter chickens, then pigs at 60 M, turkeys at 77M and rams at 100 m. The match winner was decided by a shoot off on turkeys after the tie at 21. Roger Sebesta got the win and Ron Kamp, Daniel, WY earned 1st AAA. Tony Cross, Lander, and Anthony Fuller, Wheatland, were tied going into their final targets and Cross’s 6 to Fuller’s 4 took the AA win at 19. Larron Dolence, Lander, had some trouble with the distant targets but toppled 9 for class B win.
The rain persisted as the hunter smallbore rifles were put into action. Really should report ‘as kept in action’ as all the shooters fired ‘hunter’ rifles as ‘standard’ in the 1st 40. Kamp put 27 into the mud for the match win. Sebesta got 1st AAA @ 26. Cross bested the AA’s @ 20. Dolence’s 18 moved him into class A for future matches and gave him the class B money. Fuller fired a 5 in a row on pigs, to 2nd AA @ 16.
A short lunch break coincided with the end of the rain. Sunshine with 50 degrees was present at 1PM for the high power hunter event. It was all Ron Kamp from the git-go. He ran the pigs, then 8 turkeys as he tallied his 1st master hunter score of 30. Cross won AA with 15. Dolence knocked down 13 for his 1st HP silhouette score. Kevin Dekold, Ammon, ID, stopped it on his way to Cheyenne on a work related trip. He hadn’t fired a HP match for 10 years but was still able to shoot down 7 with a new 6.5-284 for the class A win.
No standard high power match was fired.
The next silhouette match will be June 18 with high power rifles first on the line. All safe shooters are welcome.
