Dear Fans of Smallbore Bench Rest Matches:
I don’t think conditions could have been more favorable today for late season smallbore bench rest shooting. Temps were moderate (but cold near the end of the match), and the wind was light – usually. Yes, it was switching, and the occasional 7 mph gusts (my estimate) kept us on our toes, but it was readable.
Forty-one matches were logged, five with irons, 35 with scopes, and one DNF. This is the third week in a row we exceeded the year’s average of 38. Nice going.
We welcomed two new shooters today, David Haynes, a friend of Dennis Koppenhafer, and Glen Graham, a friend of Tony Cross. David is local, Glen is visiting from upstate New York. Hopefully we’ll start seeing David on the firing line, and Glen too when is visiting the west.
As mentioned in an earlier email, this was the penultimate match of this year’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot series, only one to go, so plan on joining us next Monday, Oct 2. As always, a good time will be had by all.
And finally, many thanks to the shooters and all who helped with the many tasks it takes to run a successful match. And remember John Milton’s final two lines from his sonnet On His Blindness, “They also serve who only stand and wait.”
