Dear LVSA Members:
It was 4 degF at 0700 this morning when the 14-year old left Team Charlie World Headquarters and headed for the bus stop. She wore her Firenza Italia sweatshirt (a winter coat would have been too uncool for an 8th grader), but was reluctantly persuaded by the 8″ of snow on our driveway that tennis shoes were a better choice than flip-flops.
It was 44 degF when I arrived at the range at 1345 to begin setting up for the match. The sky was cloudless and our friend the wind was behaving (steady and light to moderate from the south, but as always, a few twitches just to keep things interesting). All in all, it was perfect Opening Day weather for this year’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot matches.
We had 27 matches recorded, two in the iron sight class, 24 in the scope class, and one not scored.
Four new shooters joined us today: Joe Nemick, Caiden Pfisterer, Kent Schmidlen (who shot in the Winter Fun Shoots), and Dennis VanDenbos. We welcome them heartily and hope they find time to continue shooting with us as their schedules allow.
This was our first match in the expanded building (excellent work by Tom Spriggs). Things ran about as well as could be expected for an inaugural match. The kinks will be worked out in no time al all.
The scores were good. This promises to be an interesting season.
My thanks to all who helped in every capacity. Special thanks to all who participated. You are the reason we run these matches.
