Dear LVSA Members:
The first of this seasons five .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoots is in the books. Sixteen matches were logged, two with iron sights and 14 with scopes.
We had two first timers join us for today’s match: Larron and Larry Dolence. Hopefully they will be able to compete in the remaining winter matches and continue on with us in the .22LR 50yd BR shoots starting next April.
It was a tale of temperatures and sun. When the first flight was called to the line, the temp on the rifle shed thermometer read 7 degF and the sky to the south was cloudy. By the time the third flight was called, the temp had risen to 27 degF and the sun was present in all its glory. The match finished with the temp just under 30 degF and clouds reappearing. All in all, very pleasant late fall conditions.
It was a tale of the wind. We shot six flights. The first two were in very calm conditions, flights 3 and 4 featured a head wind (very unfriendly), and flights 5 and 6 were contested with a good left to right wind. This wind started strong, but slacked off significantly in intensity halfway through flight 5. We must always remember that the wind is our friend, especially at 100 yards.
My thanks to all who helped set up, score, collect and set targets, clean up, and all the little things necessary to run a successful match. My thanks too, to all who braved the conditions to take their places at the firing line. A good time was had by all.
