Dear Smallbore Bench Rest Fans:
When Dennis Koppenhafer sat down at bench one for the first flight in today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot, his was the 2,550th match recorded in the scope class in this six year history of this series.
When Jeff Wendt sat down at bench six for the first flight in today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot, his was the 500th match recorded in the iron sight class in this six year history of this series.
Congratulations to all who have participated since the first of the 109 matches (total to date) was held back on August 1, 2011.
By the time we left for the day, a total of 31 matches were logged, 4.5 in irons and 26.5 in scopes (the split is due to the fact that Ben Dolence shot his first round with irons and his second with a scope). We had one DNF (Dallas Baker). Dallas’ and Ben’s scores are listed below the line in the results table below.
The weather was the story. We did not set the first flight’s targets until 3:01pm, the latest start time in memory. We delayed setting the targets for the second flight until there was a (temporary) break in the rain. The rain and wind provided challenging conditions through the first two hours of the match – but then the rain stopped and the wind became mild and steady. Beautiful.
Try as we might, it is not possible to predict the weather over the three hour duration of these matches. For every windy start and mild finish (like today) there is a mild start and windy finish (like the May 9th match). We show up when convenient and shoot the conditions Mother Nature provides. It all evens out in the end.
