LVSA Membership Meeting Minutes March 7, 2018
Called to order at 7:30PM by President Sebesta. Seven Board members present (Sebesta, Cain, Piette, Campbell, Brown, Molyneux, Newell), plus six members; 13 attendees total.
Minutes from Feb 7, 2018, were read. Move by Molyneux, 2nd by Campbell to approve as read. Passed by a voice vote.
Treasurer’s report: as of Feb 28, 2018, there was $18,020 available in checking, $1,206 in savings. Membership stands at 307 (up 34 from 2017).
Shooting Committee: February events saw the cancellation due to weather of the SB/HP Silhouette match. March events will proceed as scheduled, weather permitting.
Range and Facilities Committee: As the weather warms up, the outdoor range gets muddy.
Junior Club News: The NRA Junior Sectional match will be held at the indoor range on the weekend of March 17 and 18. No update on American Legion Postal. The 4-H program is working well.
Old Business
1] Election: No nominations were received prior to the meeting. Sebesta called for nominations from the floor. None were received. Move by Gallinger, 2nd by Hammer to reelect the following slate of candidates for another term (two years for officers, four years for Board members) by acclimation. Passed by a voice vote.
Officers:
President – Roger Sebesta
Vice President – Caroline Cain
Secretary / Treasurer – Charles Piette
Chief Instructor – Roy Brown
Chief Range Officer – Bruce Campbell
Board Member – Dudley Irvine
Board Member – Donn Molyneux
For the record, the two Board members whose terms expire in 2020 are Tom Spriggs and Ed Newell.
2] Range license: the Army requested that the Environmental Stewardship Plan be revamped. No deadline was given.
3] The club’s 2018 CMP certificate has been posted (no. 05D029).
4]. Tickets for the members only raffle of a Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer are offered at $10 each on a first come first served basis. They are available at The Good Place, at Anytime Fitness, at the club’s Apr 4 meeting, and from Sec / Treas Piette. The drawing will be at the May 2 meeting. The winner will have to pass the NICS background check. Sales are proceeding well.
5] Infrared heating system: no update.
6] Several LEA’s have expressed their appreciation to the club for the availability of the range for training and qualification.
New Business
1] Thanks are offered to the members who have moved snow and cut wood. This is truly appreciated.
2] Indoor leaking will necessitate brush cutting on the west side of the building before spring green-up.
3] A letter of thanks was mailed to Johnny Kerr for his donation of a Marlin 2000L to the club [question: is this intended for Junior Club use exclusively or for members in general?].
4] Newell updated the Hunter Rifle event: waiting for warmer weather. Hanging hardware is still required. A trial run will be needed before the events are added to the calendar.
5] No date yet for the next Basic Pistol class.
6] Wyoming Corporate Registration has been completed (LVSA’s ID 1980-000112743).
7] Sebesta was told that a Henry lever action rifle may be available through the WSSA. He did not think the LVSA’s chance was very good.
8] Appleseed Shoot: these are defined and well organized events run by the Revolutionary War Veterans of America. They are held nation-wide, including a number in Wyoming. If the club were to host an event, we would provide the range, volunteers, and miscellaneous support items (target holders, etc.). Newell spoke very favorably of RWVA and Appleseed.
Given that the 2018 Range Schedule has been approved and in effect since Nov 2017, it is recommended that if the members approve, the club’s hosting of an Appleseed event take place in 2019. Piette will contact Nik Denninger (RWVA and LVSA member) to see if he would like to discuss this at an upcoming club meeting.
9] Cowboy State Games: Piette was approached to see if the LVSA had an interest in putting on shooting events as part of the Cowboy State Games. The club would have free rein to design the events.
As with the Appleseed, given that the 2018 Range Schedule has been approved and in effect since Nov 2017, it is recommended that if the members approve, the club’s participation in the Cowboy State Games take place in 2019.
