Dear LVSA Members and Friends:
Question: What are perfect conditions to spend time at the range?
My answer: Any time you can spend time at the range, conditions are perfect. With apologies to superlative purists, let me add that mild temperatures, partly overcast skies, and moderate non-varying cross winds make things more perfect, but just being there is the thing.
Today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot, the 13th of this season’s 23, was contested under perfect conditions. Skies were sunny, temps were hot (mid 90’s), and a cross wind was often present and constant in direction, but that direction was observed to change by 90 degrees without warning at a moment’s notice. The later relays saw head and tail winds (significant vertical shifts).
Thirty-six matches were logged, six with irons, 30 with scopes.
We were joined by two young shooters today, first-timer Luke Salsgiver (Bruce Campbell’s grandson), and second-timer Henry Wendt (Jeff Wendt’s son). It warms the heart to see these young people on the firing line.
As noted in previous reports, our friend and shooting buddy Ron Valentine is in Bellevue Washington for medical treatment. We hope to have him back in five or so weeks. In his absence, Tom Spriggs shot his first match for Ron in the scope class. While I assume Ron appreciates it, there is no substitute for being on the firing line yourself. Get well soon, my friend.
My thanks are given to all who helped, and to all who took their places on the firing line. You make my life as Match Director easy.
There are only ten matches to go in this series in 2018. Still plenty of time to get some points on the marksmanship curve.
