Dear Friends of the Wind and LVSA Members at Large:
It was overcast and windy at my place west of town this morning when I woke up at 0600. Strangely, at around 1130 the wind died down to almost nothing and I knew, especially after a week’s hiatus, that it would be a perfect day at the range for our .22LT 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot.
I was not alone, thirty-five matches – five with irons, 30 with scopes – were recorded.
By match time, the sky was mostly sunny, the temperature was in the mid 60’s, but the calm wind proved an illusion. Not only did the wind start picking up at 1500, it turned into a gusting, swirling, and switching tempest before the match ended. You have to believe that the wind is your friend, but sometimes you really have to have faith. Today was one of those times.
As reported last week, work was done on the target holders to make them more stable, and we are using a new system to make them more stable in the target holders. Our friend the wind will not be getting the better of us – at least not by wobbling targets anymore!
A milestone was reached during this match: the 2,500th target in this series was shot – fittingly by Byrl Nichols who was present at the very first match back in August of 2011. Congratulations to all of you who have helped, and continue to help make these matches a success.
As always, my thanks to all who helped in the set-up, take-down , clean-up, spotting, scoring, target setting, and all the other jobs it takes to put on a match. As always, special thanks to all who braved the wind to participate. I can say without fear of contradiction that a good time was had by all.
