.22LR 50yd BR Fun Shoot Results 08.04.14

August 4, 2014

Dear LVSA Members:

The temperature was a muggy 70 degF with a relative humidity of 56% when I left for the range early this afternoon. The skies were overcast, and there was very little wind. By match time, the wind had picked up and was blowing steadily from the north. Soon after the match began, it started sprinkling. By 3:45pm, the wind had all but stopped, but the rain had picked up considerably. As the match neared its conclusion, the wind picked up again, this time from the south, but the rain was slacking off. These were probably the most interesting conditions to date. The conditions for today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot, number 16 of this season’s 24 matches, will be remembered for a long time. There were many great scores today. A good time was had by all.

Thirty matches were recorded, one with irons, 29 with scopes.
We welcomed four new shooters today: Jake Nation and Mandy Apodaca, neighbors of Ron Collins, Dustin Supino, son of Jimmy and brother of Tanner Supino, and Dale Elder, son of Nancy and step-son of Jerry York. Hopefully they will become regulars at these matches,
I was asked last week if I would be happy when this season was over. An interesting question. Assuming the last thirds of the matches go as well as the first two-thirds, I will count this as a successful season – and the successful completion of any project is the source of satisfaction.

But I will definitely miss the weekly competition. I’ve practiced at the range by myself, and spent enjoyable hours shooting with a friend or two. These are not the same as shooting in the matches. Each match is an event. The flags, the targets, the guns in the racks, the participants at the shooting benches, the talk, the banter, the “wailing wall,” all are things I look forward to each week. They will be missed come October.

My thanks are offered once again to all who helped in any aspect of the match. Also, my thanks are offered to all showed up to shoot. You are the ones who make these matches the events that they are.
