New Owners Night Dec 26, 2014

Dear LVSA Members Past and Present:

Our Christmas day storm is history. About two feet of typically light Wyoming snow fell at my place. You will have to indulge me two points about this storm before I get into the New Owners Night report:

1. The new snow makes everything so beautiful. I hope none of us ever gets so jaded that we do not appreciate the wonder that is Wyoming.

2. My compliments to the crews that cleared Squaw Creek Road and Boulder Loop. They did an excellent job.

Now the report:

Four new shooters plus assorted parents, grandparents, etc. took part in the club’s New Owners Night program. Three fielded .22’s and one an air rifle.

LVSA Sec / Treas and Match Director Charlie Piette gave a brief introduction to the joys and responsibilities of shooting. This included Col. Jeff Cooper’s four rules (link here). LVSA President and Match Director Roger Sebesta then explained eye dominance and sight picture. Interestingly, we had two right eye/right hand shooters, one left eye/left hand shooter, and one left eye/right hand shooter.

After making sure everyone had “eyes and ears” we headed to the firing line to put some lead down range (aka to turn money into noise). We set up the shooters on the benches and guided them in their pursuit of accuracy. Ammo and targets were furnished by the LVSA. The adult attendees were of great assistance. Muzzle control was great, there were no safety issues.

The last shooters left at 9:00pm. I am confident that a good time was had by all.

There are many steps along the road of shooting excellence, enjoyment, and safety. For these four young shooters, this was one of them.

Charlie Piette

LVSA Sec / Treas and Match Director
