Dear Cold Weather SB Shooters and Friends:
The third of this season’s five .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoots was held today in near perfect conditions. The skies were cloudy, the temp at match time was in the mid 20’s, the wind was moderate and a bit more steady than in previous matches. There was no snow.
Fourteen matches were recorded, three with iron sights, 10 with scopes, and one in a special one-time-only category.
Jim Gores joined us today for his first meet. He fielded a Marlin 39 lever action with a 4x BSA scope (a great set up for small game). Bruce Campbell worked with Jim to get the rifle sighted in. In the interests of getting shots into the scoring black, Jim shot his match on the A-25 100yd target. His special one-time-only score is noted separately in the match results below.
A number of the competitors warned Jim that this sport is addictive. While the Marlin 39A with a 4x scope is certainly a legitimate firearm to field in these Fun Shoots, one soon gets the itch for a more powerful scope, a rifle more attuned to accuracy, a better trigger, etc, etc. We have all been there.
Hopefully we’ll see Jim at the next .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoot which will be held on Sat Feb 2.
Russ Collins, a regular attendee at both the 50yd and 100yd matches is in the hospital. He is a good friend. Please keep him in your thoughts. Russ turns 86 tomorrow.
