Dear LVSA Fans of Wind and Snow:
There is that old saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.”
I admit, as Match Director for the .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoots, I was wishing for winter conditions. And they arrived, in spades. Even the Lander Valley High School Nordic Ski meet at Beaver Creek was cancelled! For those who do not know, LVHS takes its Nordic Skiing very seriously, so for them to cancel, well, Mother Nature was not in a good mood.
I would like to offer a “hats off” salute to 100yd iron sight shooter Bruce Campbell. Bruce had been scheduled to be a timer at the Nordic Ski meet. When that was cancelled, he saw the silver lining in that he could now shoot at the 100yd match Tom Spriggs took a drive out to the range to let any competitors who missed the cancellation email and showed up know that the match was off. Bruce was the only one. Enthusiasm like this deserves recognition.
Tom reported that at the range snow was falling heavily and that the wind was whistling down the canyon at 20mph plus. It would have been an interesting match.
The final match in this series this season will be held on Sat Mar 21 in “winter conditions.” By that I’m wishing for sunny skies with temps in the high 20’s and no wind. Plan to be there. You owe it to yourself to experience at least one of these matches this year.
Be safe, and enjoy the shooting sports.
Charlie Piette
