LANDER VALLEY SPORTSMEN’S RIFLE METALLIC SILHOUETTE
FATHER’S DAY JUNE 21, 2015
Six adults attended the June event that started with the smallbore standard rifles. The day dawned bright and warm then headed into the upper 80’s before high power was completed. All were glad the winds waited until it was target pick up time.
Tyler Kamp, Pinedale returned to competition after about a year off and proceeded to win 3 of the 4 rifle classes. Each of the rifle divisions fired a 40 shot match.
Taking the matches in the order fired, Tyler’s 32 was the standard match winner. Ronald Kamp’s 28 was top in AAA. Anthony Fuller, Wheatland posted 18 hits to take the AA award. The A class win went to Tony Cross, Lander with 15 hits. This class of rifles can weigh up to 10# 2 ounces with any safe trigger pull. All shooter at this event used scopes on their guns, but it can be fired with iron sights.
The shooters next fired the smallbore hunting rifles, with a maximum weight of 8 ½#’s and having a minimum of a 2# trigger pull. Tyler led the shooters by posting a 28 for the win. Ronald’s 25 won the Master money. Lindle Offenbacker, American Falls, ID toppled 11 for the AAA award. Fuller’s 21 was for the AA win while Cross’s 19 topped the A class.
After a short lunch break it was time to take the high power rifles to the line and work on targets ranging from 200 meter chickens to the 500 meter bighorn rams. Ronald got the win over son Tyler by a 22 to 20 posting in the standard rifle division. Cross fired his 1st standard score and put 18 onto the ground to earn an A classification. He also won his 1st 5-in-a-row pig pin.
With the high power hunting guns last on the line, it was Tyler again rising to the top with a 25, with 5 in a rows on chickens and turkeys. Ronald’s 23 got the AAA award. With 17 on the score board, Cross took the AA money.
The next metallic silhouette match will be July 19, 2015, starting at 9:30AM with smallbore rifles. All safe shooters are welcome.
