MATCH CALLED BECAUSE OF RAIN, WIND, HAIL, AND LIGHTNING

Dear LVSA Fans of SB BR Fu Shooting:

The headline says it all – almost. About 12 hardy soul, optimists all, showed up at the range this afternoon for the second of this season’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoots. Despite reports of challenging weather coming from all quarters, we loaded the target holders and wind flags in Byrl’s and Ted’s trucks respectively. But by 2:30pm the conditions were deteriorating so the decision was made to scrub the match (the Match Director’s task is no easy one).

When we were returning the equipment to the storage shed, the weather struck with a vengeance: rain, hail, wind, lightning, etc. Water raged through the parking lot as the disappointed competitors packed up their gear and headed to the dry warmth of their homes.

But as yours truly was leaving (the gate had already been locked behind me), a break in the weather appeared, the rain and wind stopped, and the sun briefly shown enough to cast shadows.

As luck would have it, Tom Spriggs met me on the range road and we decided to do a little practicing. Bruce Campbell was not far behind. We set up targets and began to shoot.

But the clouds reappeared, the temperature dropped, and a steady cross wind started blowing from the north. And the rain was not far in coming.

Still, conditions offered a good opportunity to practice Kentucky windage and scope adjustment.

Needless to say, after an hour or so the three of us were ready to pack up our gear and head to the dry warmth of our homes.

My thanks to those who showed up and helped. Next week’s weather is bound to be better.

Charlie Piette
Match Director

PS Current weather reports are calling for up to a foot of snow on the ground by tomorrow morning.
