Dear LVSA Members:
It has been several weeks since we’ve had a really windy day, so we were due for one. Our friend the wind was present in all his blustering glory for today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot. The wind varied in intensity and direction, often within seconds. It was indeed a challenge.
Still, given the conditions, we had a good turnout: thirty-one matches (7 with irons, 24 with scopes) were scored.
SQIRREL GUN SPOTTED: Faithful readers will remember that “these matches were originally intended for .22 rifles of the type used by our fathers and grandfathers when they taught us the fine art of marksmanship. These were the .22s we used when we passed this tradition on to our sons and daughters. These rifles are off-the-shelf, affordable, sporter, plinker, and small game rifles.” Well, in today’s match, Larry Crismon fielded a Sears-Roebuck single shot .22LR squirrel gun with semi-buck horn sights. He bought this rifle over 50 years ago. Larry noted that the front bead totally covered the scoring black of the target which hindered fine adjustments to his point of aim, but all his shots were in the scoring ring. Nice going, Larry.
As Match Director, I’m very pleased with the level of cooperation and amount of help offered and given by the match participants; please accept my thanks, and a special thanks to LindaJo and Richard for hauling in the coolers with the water (stay hydrated!). As always, many thanks are offered to all who competed.
