.22LR 100yd BR Winter Match – Two Year Summary

March 23, 2015

Dear LVSA Members:

The second season of the .22LR 100yd Bench Rest Winter Fun Shoot season is in the books. Now that we have two under our belts, we can legitimately call this an annual event.

To summarize the series to date:

In these two seasons, ten events have been scheduled, nine have been held. Given the unpredictable – and often severe – nature of Wyoming weather from late November through late March, it is a bit surprising that we have been able to run these nine.

The weather for the final 2014 – 2015 match was very pleasant. Most of the other eight matches presented a challenge, mainly cold, some snow, and lots of wind. A measure of the tenacity and toughness of our competitors is easily demonstrated by the number of participants willing to face these conditions. We are a tough breed here in Wyoming.

In the two seasons, five different individuals shot 10 Iron Sight matches (all in the second season), while 27 different individuals shot 135 Scope matches. This averages out to be 16.1 participants per match. Our high was 20, our low was 11.

The average iron sight score (A-25 target) was 384 – 14X.

The average scope score (A-23/5 target) was 360 – 5X. Shooting those 50yd targets at 100 yards tests one’s mettle.

As match director, I would like to thank all who participated in any way. A fun (but often cold) time was (usually) had by all.

The first match of the 2015 – 2016 season will be held on Sat Nov 21st. Plan to be there to enjoy the Wyoming outdoors in winter.

Charlie Piette
Match Director
