Dear Residents of the WIND River Basin:
“Litotes” – definition: an ironical understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by the negative of its contrary (e.g. you won’t be sorry, meaning you’ll be glad).
Expressing it as a litotes, our friend the Wind in today’s .22LR 50yd Bench Rest Fun Shoot “was not unchallenging.” Not only was she intense, she was regularly switching directions, often appearing to be coming from several directions at the same time depending on which flag was being watched. Needless to say, the scores accurately reflected these conditions.
Still, the sound of clanking brass could be heard above the howl of the wind as today’s shooters were called to the line (Nancy and LindaJo were the exceptions).
Thirty-one matches were logged, three in irons and 28 in scopes, with 30 being recorded (Team Charlie experienced a trigger problem during this second match). One score is being reported “below the line.” Long time participant Byrl Nichols was shooting left handed (and left eyed) for the first time. His score is not representative of his abilities as a shooter.
Many thanks to all who helped with all aspects of the match, and many thabks to all who braved the wind to compete. A good, but windy, time was had by all.
